Decorating for Christmas

I love the finished product of Christmas decorating, but gathering up the greens, the berries and the twigs presents its challenges. Sure, for a small fortune I can pick up a bundle of holly, some evergreen bows, and a bunch of variegated dogwood twigs; enough to fill one urn or maybe two flower boxes, but then I’m stuck wondering what to do with all the other empty, lifeless boxes and containers. I find myself driving down the road, searching wooded areas for evergreen trees. This fall, I started taking walks through our woods in search of berries. So imagine my delight when one day, as fall turned to winter, I noticed the vibrant red branches  growing right in my very own front yard! Variegated Dogwood has become a very popular addition to our winter greenery arranging. The beautiful red branches give our boxes and containers a splash of color; an elegant finish. The Saturday after Thanksgiving, I was headed down the driveway when I spotted the red branches, standing out against the rest of the brown, dead-looking landscape. I stopped the burb, jumped out and ran across the yard. Sure enough, there it was my own little crop of variegated Dogwood just waiting to be clipped and tucked in amongst the spruce bows. To date, the absolute best thing about our property yet!  Happy Holidays, and welcome to my blog!
